It's mondayevening, June 10, and I am still at home in Switzerland. All local volunteers have completed a big part of their trainings. Several volunteers are already at work, like our friends in the Accreditation centre, the volunteers at the Airport or also those who take care of the protocol activities. Like my dutch friend Peter. He arrived last friday in Recife and he has already made his first experiences with "working at the Confederations Cup" ;-).
Wednesdaymorning, June 12, my flight will leave from Zürich (Switzerland), to Lissabon for a first stop. From there I will be heading to Fortaleza, entering Brazil somewhat north of Recife. Wednesdayevening at 22:24hrs (Brazilian time (03:24 European/South African time)) I will arrive at the airport in Recife, after 19 hours of travelling.
Happily Ronaldo will pick me up at the airport to take me to his place in Boa Viagem where I will stay until monday June 24. I am very much looking forward to meet Ronaldo, and also to meet many new volunteer friends in Recife, some of which I only know through one of the Facebook groups. I am wondering whether there are any South Africans in Recife..? Does anybody know?
Thursdaymorning I will try to find my way to the Arena Pernambuco. Thiago was so kind to send me following map and instructions to get from Boa Viagem to my workplace for the coming 2 weeks. This look as follows (might also be of use to any other volunteers):

First of
all, the stations more close for you in Boa Viagem is Aeroporto and Tancredo
Neves stations. The train it's the only way to arrive at Arena Pernambuco.
When you
arrive in Joana Bezerra Station, you have to take other train with final
destination (Camaragibe), because exist other train with other destination
(Jaboatão).
The
trains always interleave, example: First train (Jaboatão), second train
(Camaragibe) third train (Jaboatão) fourth train (Camaragibe) .....
Pay
attention or you can take the wrong train.
Arriving
in Rodoviaria station, U take the bus (TI. TIP/Parque Capibaribe).
If U
need some help, it's complicate, because it's hard find someone that speak
english there (I don't know if the government will put someone bilingual).
When U
take this bus, certainly the bus driver don't speak english. Soooo... I hope
when you say "Pernambuco Arena" he understands that U wants arrive
there.I really should have learned Portuguese.....
Es ist Montagabend, 10. Juni, und ich bin immer noch zu Hause in der Schweiz. Alle lokalen Freiwilligen haben einen großen Teil ihres Trainings abgeschlossen. Mehrere Freiwillige sind bereits bei der Arbeit, wie unsere Freunde in der Akkreditierungszentrale, die Freiwilligen am Flughafen oder auch diejenigen, die sich um die Protokoll-Aktivitäten kümmern. Wie mein holländischer Freund Peter. Er kam letzten Freitag in Recife an und er hat bereits seine ersten Erfahrungen mit "Arbeiten am Confederations Cup" gemacht ;-).
Mittwochmorgen, 12. Juni, wird mein Flug ab Zürich die Schweiz verlassen, mit Lissabon als 1. Zwischenstopp. Von dort aus werde ich auf Fortaleza zusteuern, meine erste Bekanntschaft mit Brasilien machen, etwas nördlich von Recife. Mittwochabend um 22:24 Uhr (brasilianische Zeit (03.24 European / südafrikanische Zeit)) werde ich am Flughafen in Recife eintreffen, nach einer 19-stündigen Reise (und für alle die sich fragen bezahlt die FIFA das alles....nein! Ein Volunteer organisiert und zahlt alles selber!).
Glücklicherweise holt Ronaldo mich am Flughafen ab, und bringt mich zu seinem Hausz in Boa Viagem, wo ich bis Montag 24. Juni bleibe. Ich bin sehr gespannt Ronaldo zu treffen, und auch viele neue Freunde & Freiwilligen in Recife, von denen ich einige nur durch eine der Facebook-Gruppen kenne. Ich frage mich, ob es irgendwelche Südafrikaner in Recife gibt..?
Donnerstagmorgen werde ich versuchen, meinen Weg zur Arena Pernambuco zu finden.
Thiago war so freundlich, mir folgende Karte und Anweisungen zu senden, um von Boa Viagem aus meinem Arbeitsplatz für die kommenden 2 Wochen zu finden. Dies sieht wie folgt aus:

Zunächst einmal ist die Stationen mehr schließen für Sie in Boa Viagem Aeroporto und Tancredo Neves Stationen. Der Zug ist es der einzige Weg, um in der Arena Pernambuco ankommen.
Wenn Sie in Joana Bezerra Bahnhof ankommen, müssen Sie andere Zug mit Endziel (Camaragibe) zu nehmen, weil es andere Zug mit anderen Ziel (Jaboatão).
Die Züge immer interleave, Beispiel: Erster Zug (Jaboatão), die zweite Bahn (Camaragibe) dritten Zug (Jaboatão) vierte Zug (Camaragibe) .....
Achten Sie darauf, oder Sie können den falschen Zug zu nehmen.
Ankunft in Rodoviaria Station, nehmen Sie die U-Bus (Ti. TIP / Parque Capibaribe).
Wenn U etwas Hilfe benötigen, ist es kompliziert, weil es schwer ist jemanden finden, der Englisch sprechen es (ich weiß nicht, ob die Regierung stellen wird jemand zweisprachig).
(das war dann ein "Google Translate" von einem englischen Text geschrieben durch einen Brasilianischen Volunteer....ich hätte wirklich Portugiesisch lernen müssen...)
