Over 130 thousand people applied for the FIFA Volunteer Programme
Representatives from 147 countries showed interest in working in the Confederations Cup and the World Cup in 2014

On 24.09.2012, FIFA published the final numbers of the application process for those interested in working as volunteers at the 2014 World Cup, the 2013 Confederations Cup and the two draws that will establish the groups in both competitions. The total number of applicants reached 130,919.

The initial goal was reached after only eight days, when the Local Organising Committee (LOC) had registered 90 thousand applicants in the Volunteer Programme. However, applications remained open for a month, giving those interested - from different backgrounds - the opportunity to apply.

The 130,919 applications represent a significant record. In the 2006 World Cup in Germany, 48 thousand people applied; in South Africa in 2010, there were 70 thousand applications. From the total of those interested, 97% want to work at the FIFA World Cup and 76% at the Confederations Cup.

In addition to Brazilians from the 26 states and the Federal District, there are 7,450 applications from other countries. Spanish speaking countries are in the top four positions: Colombia (908), Argentina (509), Spain (504) and Mexico (500).

“In addition to the cultural exchange that characterises volunteer work in major sporting events, the participation of foreigners ensures that there will be volunteers for areas that need people who speak other languages, such as the competitions and the press”, explained the LOC’s Volunteer Programme Director Rodrigo Hermida.

Seven thousand volunteers are expected to work at the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2013 and 15 thousand in the 2014 World Cup. The Local Organising Committee will start to get in touch with candidates who have applied to work in the FIFA Confederations Cup in November 2012. For the World Cup, the contact will be made in November 2013.

The volunteer work in not paid, but LOC and FIFA will make uniforms available to those selected, allowance to assist in the commute to the place of activities (within the host city) and food during working hours. Candidates need to meet some requirements, such as being at least eighteen years of age and be available for at least twenty consecutive days during the events. Each shift lasts up to 10 hours. During the selection process the skills, profile and knowledge of each candidate will be verified.

Vertreter aus 147 Ländern zeigten Interesse an der Arbeit in den Confederations Cup und die WM 2014.Am 24.09.2012 veröffentlichte die FIFA die letzten Zahlen des Bewerbungsverfahrens für die Interessenten in der Arbeit als Freiwillige bei der WM 2014, das Jahr 2013 Confederations Cup und die zwei Draws, die Gruppen in beiden Wettbewerben zu etablieren. Die Gesamtzahl der Bewerber war 130.919.

Das ursprüngliche Ziel wurde nach nur acht Tagen erreicht, das Lokale Organisationskomitee (LOC) hatte da schon 90.000 Bewerbern im Volunteer-Programm registriert. Allerdings blieben die Bewerbungen für einen Monat offen, so dass die Interessenten - aus verschiedenen Hintergründen - die Möglichkeit hatten, sich zu bewerben.

Die 130.919 Anwendungen stellen einen bedeutenden Rekord dar. Bei der WM 2006 in Deutschland wurden 48.000 Bewerbungen gezählt; in Südafrika im Jahr 2010 gab es 70.000 Bewerbungen.  97% der Bewerber wollen an der FIFA Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft und 76% beim Confederations Cup arbeiten.

Neben Brasilianer aus den 26 Bundesstaaten und dem Federal District, gibt es 7.450 Bewerbungen aus anderen Ländern. Vor allem Bewerbungen aus de Spanischsprachigen Ländern: Kolumbien (908), Argentinien (509), Spanien (504) und Mexiko (500).

"Zusätzlich zu den kulturellen Austausch, die ehrenamtliche Arbeit in wichtigen Sportereignisse charakterisiert, sorgt die Beteiligung von Ausländern dafür, dass es Freiwillige gibt die andere Sprachen sprechen, was für die Wettbewerbe vorteilhaft ist und für die Presse ein Muss ist", erklärte der LOC Volunteer-Programm Regisseur Rodrigo Hermida.

Sieben tausend Freiwilligen werden beim FIFA Confederations Cup im Jahr 2013 erwartet, 15.000 arbeiten an der WM 2014. Für die Weltmeisterschaft, wird der Kontakt im November 2013 erfolgen.

Die ehrenamtliche Arbeit wird nicht bezahlt, aber LOC und FIFA werden Uniformen zur Verfügung stellen, die Fahrt an den Ort der Tätigkeit (in der Host-City) wird bezahlt und Essen & Trinken wird während der Arbeitszeit angeboten. Die Bewerber müssen einige Anforderungen erfüllen, wie z.B. mindestens achtzehn Jahre alt sein und für mindestens zwanzig aufeinander folgenden Tagen zur Verfügung stehen während den Veranstaltungen. Jede Schicht dauert bis zu 10 Stunden. Bei der Auswahl werden die Fähigkeiten, das Profil und die Kenntnisse der einzelnen Kandidaten überprüft.
